The project of the replacement of the Sonnenberg swimming pool in Engelberg
The outdoor pool in Sonnenberg has existed in Engelberg since 1928. It was the first heated outdoor pool in Switzerland and was considered a tourist and technical novelty. In 1969, the pool was expanded with an indoor pool. After closing in 1988, it was reconstructed and reopened in 1994. However, due to the unsatisfactory structural and technical condition of the pool, the municipal council audited it.
The project proposes the relocation of the indoor swimming pool to the southern edge of the Sonnenberg site. This will create a new outdoor pool and an extensive green and open space between the indoor pool and the semicircular arena in the north of the Sonnenberg site.
